Vietnam on September 7 confirmed the country’s third death from the A/H1N1 flu after a female patient aged 56, who tested positive for the virus at the Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute, died on September 4.

The woman, who was previously diagnosed as mentally ill, showed signs of the ailment on August 31 and later died from pneumonia and respiratory failure. However, the Ministry of Health has not been able to determine the source of her infection.

On the same day, the Ministry confirmed 141 new cases of A/H1N1 influenza.

The new cases include 122 from the southern provinces, 4 from the North, and 15 from the central region.

To date, Vietnam has reported 3,777 positive cases of the disease, and three deaths. The fatal virus has hit over 50 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide. The development of the pandemic is complicated, especially at schools which have started a new academic year.
