Health officials report third swine flu death

A third Wyoming resident has died after becoming infected with the swine flu virus, the state Department of Health announced today.
The resident, a woman from Laramie County, had underlying health conditions linked with higher risk of severe illness.
The death comes amid widespread flu activity throughout the state that health officials say is almost entirely due to the swine flu virus.
Since late May, more than 400 cases of swine flu -- also known as the 2009 H1N1 strain -- have been reported in Wyoming. Health officials say the actual number of infections is likely much higher since most ill people don't seek treatment or aren't tested.
Swine flu symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, headaches and fatigue. Health officials advise people who develop flu-like symptoms to stay home from work or school until they are free of fever without the help of medication for at least 24 hours.
