KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- A total of 460 new patients with influenza-like illness (ILI) symptoms were hospitalised over the last three weeks, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said Wednesday.

Of that number, 355 had been discharged.

He said 324 ILI cases were being treated nationwide as of Jan 9, involving 51 hospitals, including two private hospitals.

"Of that number, 13 patients or four per cent were Influenza A (H1N1) cases confirmed through laboratory tests," he said in a statement here.

He said that as of Jan 9, the number of positive infection cases totalled 12,329, with three still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.

No new deaths had been reported and the number remained at 77, he said.

"Members of the public are advised to continue practising Influenza A (H1N1) prevention measures following the Level 6 pandemic alert maintained by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the highest declared since June 11 last year," he said.

355 Influenza Like Illness Cases Detected Last Week

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- A total of 355 new patients were warded between Jan 10 and 16 for influenza-like illness (ILI) symptoms, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican.

He said during the same period 339 patients were also discharged after being treated for ILI.

"Till Saturday, 341 ILI cases in 43 government hospitals nationwide were still being treated.

"Of this number, only 25 patients, or 7.3 per cent of the cases were confirmed to be Influenza A (H1N1)," he said in a statement Wednesday.

He said five H1N1 cases were being treated in the intensive care unit, four had risk factors while one had no risk factor.

As of Jan 16, the total number of positive Influenza A (H1N1) cases recorded was 12,356 with the number of deaths remaining at 77, he added.

Meanwhile, he said a cluster of ILI incidents were reported at the Geokosmo Sungai Selisek National Service (NS) Camp in Hulu Selangor on Jan 16, but samples taken tested negative for Influenza A (H1N1).

Dr Mohd Ismail advised NS trainees and camp staff nationwide to continue practising H1N1 prevention and control measures.

Another cluster reported by Pathfinder here: http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=139595

If these clusters are not A/H1N1 then it would be helpful to know which Influenza A virus was so virulent and causing such high numbers to be hospitalised. With very little info being published recently and then suddenly reports of large clusters, of unidentified influenza A, this seems to be following the same path as last year!
