3,766 new coronavirus cases reported in Massachusetts schools in past week

Coronavirus cases are continuing to jump in the Bay State, as education officials on Thursday reported a total of more than 3,700 staff and students testing positive for COVID-19 in the past week.

The count of 3,766 staff and students is a 16% increase from the previous weekly report of 3,245 infections. COVID-19 cases are climbing in the state after mask mandates were lifted and as the omicron BA.2 “stealth” variant spreads. The Boston-area COVID wastewater data is rising.

The report published on Thursday by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education shows that 2,782 students and 984 staff tested positive for the coronavirus from March 31 to Wednesday. ...
