South African officials are recognizing the following as the 2nd death due to H1N1.

It will be entered in the FluTrackers database as the third death in SA. The death announced August 5th was entered in the database as the 2nd SA death due the insistence of the attending physicians that swine flu was the cause of death.

Here are the details of the 3rd death.

Johannesburg - South Africa's second swine flu death in Bloemfontein was confirmed by the health department on Friday.

Spokesperson Fidel Hadebe could not provide further information.

On Wednesday, the department said the recent death of a 44-year-old KwaZulu-Natal man could not conclusively be linked to swine flu.

The man's death was initially thought to be the second death in the country.

Until Friday, only the death of 22-year-old Stellenbosch University student Ruan Muller was directly linked to the H1N1 virus based on laboratory confirmation by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases.
