According to the report submitted by the National Communicable Disease Surveillance at the Ministry of Health in the week 17 -23 January 2011, the total number of reported acute respiratory infections is 91 062, rising by 16% compared to that recorded in the previous week.
At week 17 -23 January 2011 were confirmed 31 cases of flu and has been recorded death in a child in Satu-Mare.
Epidemiologists say that there was an average incidence of acute respiratory infections that exceeded the basal level, but were not exceeded the maximum expected.

In Europe, influenza activity continued to grow slowly (WHO EuroFlu)

This conclusion is based on data from the 47 weeks reported for 2011 to 2003 (out of 53 countries) of the European Region of World Health Organization (WHO-Europe).

Influenza activity has increased in the European region following the same trend of increase from west to east. In Ireland, Spain and England influenza activity has already reached the peak maximum.

Sentinel 44% of the samples were positive for influenza in the week from 2011 to 2003.

Pandemic influenza A (H1N1) virus in 2009 remains dominant in the region. Type B influenza virus is co-dominant in 13 countries and is dominant in other three countries.

Countries in the WHO European region continued to report severe cases mainly produced pandemic influenza A (H1N1) in 2009.

Influenza activity began in Romania

Since the beginning of respiratory infections and influenza surveillance (October 2010) and by

? Steering Committee of the Ministry of Health has analyzed the current epidemiological situation in our country in the context of integrated development of influenza in Europe and has developed measures and recommendations which were forwarded to the network of health care.

The epidemiological situation falls at medium intensity and a trend increase in cases of viral respiratory infections and flu for the next period.

Currently, there are sporadic cases of influenza A/H1N1 outbreaks throughout the national territory and territorial Iasi, Bucharest, Constanta and Mures.

Epidemiologists have found an increase in circulation of influenza viruses throughout the national territory. Dominant circulating strain, which has led to the deaths, is the type A / H1N1 but, simultaneously, are registered cases of influenza virus type B and A / H3N2. Also, cases of bacterial pneumonia and bacterial Viro-children grew primarily because of delayed presentation of a sick child to health services.

Influenza activity in Romania is of medium intensity, with regional spreading (in the North-west, northeast and southeast) and local outbreaks or sporadic cases in the rest of the country, according to data submitted by the National Center for Surveillance and Control Communicable Diseases, Ministry of Health.



The report also found that the average incidence of respiratory infections in the last three weeks is above the basal level, without being overcome, however, the expected maximum values. In the week 31.01 - 06.02. In 2011 there were 90,222 cases of acute respiratory infections, with 11.1% lower compared with that recorded in previous weeks.



Also, last week (01/31 to 02/06/2011) were 73 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza with the total of 194 since the start of the season (October 2010).



Of the 73 cases of influenza, H1N1, and 45 are of type B. The remaining deaths were recorded and5 influenza H1N1 confirmed cases: two deaths in Bucharest (the age groups 55 and 33 years) and one death each in the counties Braila (37 years), White (15 years) and Hunedoara (51 years).



Most deaths occurred in persons who had associated diseases such as obesity, pulmonary or cardiovascular disease.

Morbidity caused by acute respiratory infections and flu in Romania is of medium intensity, with national distribution.

"There is an accumulation of cases in the counties of Iasi, Arad, Hunedoara, Prahova and Bucharest. The incidence of acute respiratory infections and influenza was 34.4% higher than the average of three weeks earlier and were exceeded the expected maximum. The results of analysis of acute respiratory infections and flu incidence suggests a high intensity influenza activity, with national distribution, the report shows.

In the week 28.02 - 06.03. In 2011 there were 121,993 cases of acute respiratory infections, 11.1% less compared with those recorded in the previous week and a total of 800 clinical conditions compatible with influenza (number compared with the previous week), as reported by the National Center Communicable Disease Surveillance by the Ministry of Health



Although declining, the incidence of acute respiratory infections and influenza was 3.6% higher than the average of three weeks earlier and was still above the maximum expected.



Degree positivation of all samples tested (38.9%) was lower than that of the previous week, showing still a higher proportion of cases of avian influenza virus B. The activity was moderate, with spread Regional.



In last week were 107 cases with laboratory confirmed influenza (H1N1 type 50 and 57 type B) of the total 604 since the start of the season (October 2010).



Have been registered and confirmed four deaths in people with the flu (H1N1 influenza and a three influenza B)

In 2011 there were 118,087 cases of acute respiratory infections, with 3.2% less than those recorded the previous week and a total of 546 clinical conditions compatible with influenza (31.8% with lower number compared to the previous week), shows the report of the National Center for Communicable Disease Surveillance.

The incidence of acute respiratory infections and flu last week was 6.1% lower than the average of three weeks earlier and was below the expected maximum values.

It shows still a higher proportion of cases of influenza B virus, influenza activity was moderate form of local outbreaks.

There have been 87 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza (H1N1 type 28 and 59 type B) of the total of 691 since the start of the season (October 2010).

And three deaths have been recorded in people with confirmed influenza (H1N1 influenza 2 and 1 influenza B)

In week 14 - 20/03/2011 108 912 cases were recorded acute respiratory infections, with 7.7% less compared with those recorded in the previous week and a number of 483 clinical conditions compatible with influenza (11.6% lower number compared to that of previous week) is shown in the report of the National Center for Communicable Disease Surveillance.

The incidence of acute respiratory infections and flu in the last week was 13.4% lower than the average of three weeks earlier and was below the expected maximum values.

It was further revealed a higher proportion of cases of influenza B virus (two thirds of confirmed cases), influenza activity was moderate form of local outbreaks.

There were 63 cases with laboratory confirmed influenza (H1N1 type 21 and 42 type B) of the total of 754 since the beginning of the season (October 2010).

Have been registered and confirmed seven deaths in people with the flu: influenza H1N1 in May (in the counties: Arges, Brasov, Giurgiu (two deaths) and Mureş) and two influenza B (in Bucharest and Iasi).

The deaths were in people aged 25-77 years with associated risk factors.

In the last week rates of absenteeism from day care and school facilities have been decreasing.
