Doctor Vo Danh Huy, Deputy Director of Preventive Medical Center of the province, said: Until now, An Giang no cases positive for influenza A/H1N1 and influenza A/H5N1.

Two separate cases of suspected influenza A/H1N1 and influenza A/H5N1 infection had negative results, which are: English LVD, Xi'an live hamlet, Phu Binh (Chau Phu), Faculty of isolation rooms in hospital infection hospital Most science centers in the state of An Giang cough, runny nose, chills, the patient had contact with people going to and from the translation itself is exposed to a suspected influenza A/H1N1 infection. 2 cases of students PVT, live hamlet of Vinh Language, Vinh Hau (An Phu), hospitalized at Tan Chau Hospital, then transferred to Regions Hospital, Chau Doc and died together on the respiratory insufficiency. However, because earlier they had contact with chickens infected with influenza A/H5N1 facilities, health sector should have taken samples and test products send negative.

Re: 2 suspected cases of influenza A/H1N1 and influenza A/H5N1 infection have negative

Am I reading this correctly? Two students in the same area who had contact with both H1N1 infected patients and H5N1 infected poultry, and both died? I am aware that they article says that the tested negative (for both viruses?), but what killed them? It is conceviable that someone could be exposed to both viruses, and then die of something else, but two of them in the same village is extrelely unlikely. If the viruses combined, would the tests detect the combined virus?

Re: 2 suspected cases of influenza A/H1N1 and influenza A/H5N1 infection have negative

I've been putting this through various translators, and while the two are negative for H1N1, I'm not sure they are negative for H5N1. It seems that the article says that samples SHOULD have been tested for H5N1, but doesn't indicate that they were. This might "just" be two fatal H5N1 infections.

Excellent find either way, Commonground.

Re: 2 suspected cases of influenza A/H1N1 and influenza A/H5N1 infection have negative

Yes, I think you are correct. They did both die, and what did kill them? right now, I believe they test separately for each.

because earlier they had contact with chickens infected with influenza A/H5N1 facilities

They either had contact with chickens infected...or....they had contact with a facility that tests chickens for H5N1. I think the latter is true. because of this:

Faculty of isolation rooms in hospital infection hospital Most science centers in the state of An Giang cough, runny nose, chills, the patient had contact with people going to and from the translation itself is exposed to a suspected influenza A/H1N1 infection.

I don't think it's the testing facility - I think the reference to the facility is to the H1N1. I think it says they had contact with people coming and going from the H1N1 isolation facility. I think the H5N1 exposure is to infected birds.

Re: 2 suspected cases of influenza A/H1N1 & A/H5N1 have negative test results

Alert it says they tested negative for both, simple as that.

Continent regional polyclinic carry-over is Director and already even date killing because of decline is respiratory. However, owing to previously chicken younger sister had contacted, doubt prepossessed is influenzal Một / H5N1 Ought to assaying stainer disease medical branch sampled sent and result is negative,

Where is that quote from? That's not from the article that started this thread. That quote also contains the words "younger sister", which suggests that the two fatalities might be siblings.

Re: 2 suspected cases of influenza A/H1N1 & A/H5N1 have negative test results

It is from vdict translator. and died together on the respiratory insufficiency. However, because earlier they had contact with chickens infected with influenza A/H5N1 facilities, health sector should have taken samples and test products send negative.

Re: 2 suspected cases of influenza A/H1N1 & A/H5N1 have negative test results

OK. A different translator. That makes more sense. Does the second translator agree that there are two deaths, or only one?

I am beginning to see traces of a much more believable story here.

Re: 2 suspected cases of influenza A/H1N1 & A/H5N1 have negative test results

Lets out the whole in then and then you can make that judgement for yourself.

Re: 2 suspected cases of influenza A/H1N1 & A/H5N1 have negative test results

OK. Let's see the second translation. Can you also post the link to the second translation site? That seems like a much better translator than Google for Vietnamese.

Re: 2 suspected cases of influenza A/H1N1 & A/H5N1 have negative test results

Ok alert tell me what you think now:

2 doubt case prepossessed is influenzal Một / H1N1 and influenza Một / H5N1 there is negative result.
Day update: 24/ 08/ 2009 16: 58: 12

Name Martial arts Huy physician, health center sub-director is precautionary province tells #PP: up to now, An Giang haven't which case positive with influenza Một / H1N1 And Influenza Một / H5N1

Only 2 cases doubtted prepossessed is influenzal Một / H1N1 And Influenza Một / H5N1 Had negative result, those be: Great Britain L.V.Đ, contain Flask commune, West Grange Peace Endow ( Pearls Endow), Faculty isolation ward hospitalization prepossesss umbilical polyclinic An Giang in who stating cough, snivel, chill, patient had contacts departer since region translated returnned and selves have to contact who doubt that prepossessed influenza Một / H1N1. 2 case is pupil younger sister P.V.Phrase T, containned Everlasting Incubating, commune is Everlasting Rear ( Một Endow), polyclinic carry-over hospitalization at Pearls New polyclinic, later regional that Pearls is Director and already even date killing because of decline is respiratory. However, owing to previously chicken younger sister had contacted, doubt prepossessed is influenzal Một / H5N1 Ought to assaying stainer disease medical branch sampled sent and result is negative.

Re: 2 suspected cases of influenza A/H1N1 & A/H5N1 have negative test results

OK. I suspect we may be victims of a bad translation. The reference to younger sister seems to be that the fatal case's sister raised chickens (which might not have even been ill), so they tested him (her?) for H5N1 as well. If that's the case, it isn't too surprising that (s)he was negative for H5N1 - the exposure is very weak.

There is no second fatality. There was a second suspected dual infection in a second village which was also negative, and that case recovered.

That second translation definitely lowers the alarm level greatly. Thanks Rwilmer. Can you post the link for that second site? That is a much better translator.

I'm just gonna go look for more stories on it.....;)

Re: 2 suspected cases of influenza A/H1N1 & A/H5N1 have negative test results

Another possibility is that the virus could be an H3 strain.

HK reports co-circulation of H1N1 2009 and H3, with increasing number of hospitalization and in ICU patients for H3.

Sometimes, patients infected by H3 tested initially positive for Influenza A but negative for H1N1 2009 and H1N1.

For example:

(...)
A 74-year-old male patient developed flu symptoms on August 18. He was admitted to isolation ward via the Accident and Emergency Department of UCH on August 21. He was given Tamiflu and antibiotics treatment on admission and was in stable condition during hospitalization. Viral test result of this patient was positive to Influenza A but negative to human swine influenza. On August 22, patient strongly requested discharge against medical advice and signed the form. His clinical condition was stable at the time of discharge. UCH was informed on August 23 that the patient was found dead. The positive result of Influenza A (H3) was confirmed today and the case has been reported to Hospital Authority Head Office.

Influenza A outbreak at male ward of Tai Po Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

A spokesperson of Tai Po Hospital made the following announcement today (August 25):

Five patients (aged 27-79) in a male psychiatric ward of the hospital have presented with symptoms of influenza-like illness since August 21. Four patients are being treated under isolation while one patient was transferred to the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital. Their condition is stable. Appropriate tests have been arranged for the patients.

Viral test results of all five patients are positive to Influenza A but negative to human swine influenza.

Re: 2 suspected cases of influenza A/H1N1 & A/H5N1 have negative test results

Absolutely could be an H3 seasonal flu. Hong Kong has detected quite a few critical cases of H3. Doesn't even have to be flu at all in Vietnam. Could be any respiratory illness at all. The two cases don't even appear to have any link to each other at all, so it need not be the same illness.
