2,000 Dead Birds Found Near Dalhart Lake

Dalhart, Texas - Texas Parks and Wildlife officials are trying to figure out how two thousand geese and ducks turned up dead in Dalhart.
The birds were found on the Rita Blanca Lake and a nearby wetland.
Biologists think near zero temperatures triggered stress, which led to an avian cholera outbreak. Avian cholera is what preliminary tests show as the cause of death.
Wildlife officials say this is an isolated event and that things like this are not uncommon for the area
