Larger Jammu, Aug 28: A first case of dengue fever was detected in the state when a teenage girl from Udhampur, admitted in Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital, Shalimar road, tested positive.
The girl, identified as Sapna Devi, 12, daughter of Darshan Kumar a resident of village Rithi in Udhampur district, was brought to SMGS hospital on August 24, complaining of high fever, shivering and acute pain in the limbs.
Dengue is transmitted by the bite of an Aedes mosquito infected with any one of the four dengue viruses.
Head of the Pediatrics? Department, Dr Rekha Harish confirmed that the girl is suffering from dengue fever and her blood samples have confirmed the presence of dengue virus.
