UNDATED (WREX) - The number of cases and deaths from the H1N1 (swine flu) virus continue to rise in Illinois.

Illinois is now handling 3,404 confirmed and probable cases of the virus. 17 people have died.

"It is possible the impact of H1N1 may worsen in the fall during the regular flu season. The Illinois Department of Public Health will continue to prepare for the possibility of a more severe outbreak of H1N1 flu in the fall and is currently updating the state's pandemic preparedness plans using lessons learned from this spring," said Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Damon T. Arnold.

there's also a table with a breakdown of fatalities by age groups, but it won't display correctly here.
