SEOUL, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- South Korea on Wednesday reported the 10th death case related to A/H1N1 influenza.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, a 71-year-old man, who has long suffered from chronic disease, has died earlier in the day, raising the country's death toll from the new virus to 10.

The patient was diagnosed infected with the A/H1N1 virus on Sept. 16, and received antiviral treatment in hospital. But his health condition kept deteriorating, and died of chronic renal insufficiency complicated by high blood pressure, the ministry said.

South Korea reported its first death case from A/H1N1 flu on Aug. 15, and the 9th on Sept. 22.

The country reported its first new flu outbreak in early May, and so far more than 15,000 cases of the flu infections have been confirmed across the nation, with about a third of the total tally confirmed over the past week, according to the ministry.
