Honduras has 1st case of pregnant woman with Guillain-Barre syndrome

TEGUCIGALPA ? Honduran health authorities reported Saturday the first case of an expectant mother with Guillain-Barre syndrome, an ailment with suspected links to the Zika virus.

The patient, a 25-year-old woman who is 17 weeks pregnant, is being treated at the University Hospital School, or HEU, in Tegucigalpa, the coordinator of the Board of Directors of that medical center, Elsa Palou, told reporters.

The condition of the patient, whose name was not revealed, is delicate and she was admitted to the HEU with Zika symptoms, the coordinator said.

According to Palou, the woman is being given artificial respiration.
