The three males and three females were all said to be in a stable condition in various public hospitals after being admitted with fever, respiratory infection or pneumonia symptoms.

A statement said all six patients had recently been in Wuhan, but none were believed to have visited a seafood market linked to the outbreak.

The new suspected cases bring the total number of people put into isolation in Hong Kong after falling sick following trips to Wuhan to 21 since New Year's Eve.

Of these, seven have already been discharged from hospital.

[h=2]Nine more isolated over Wuhan virus, US issues alert[/h]
2020-01-07 HKT 18:00

Nine more people in Hong Kong have been placed in isolation over fears they have caught an unidentified viral pneumonia that has broken out in Wuhan while the United States embassy in Beijing issued an alert to its citizens travelling to the mainland province.

The latest patients admitted to Hong Kong hospitals were aged six to 49.

The five males and four females were all said to be in a stable condition after being admitted with fever, respiratory infection or pneumonia symptoms.

The new suspected cases bring the total number of people put into isolation in Hong Kong after falling sick following trips to Wuhan to 30 since New Year's Eve.

Meanwhile the US authorities in Beijing have told Americans travelling in the country that they should avoid animals and contact with sick people.

Along with Hong Kong, authorities in Taiwan and Singapore also have reported suspected cases. But no other province on the mainland has officially reported cases of this mystery disease....:tiphat:https://news.rthk.hk/rthk/en/component/k2/1501489-20200107.htm

Hong Kong’s N95 stocks low amid Wuhan mystery virus fears
Sam Tsang/South China Morning Post
Updated 07 January, 2020

HONG KONG — Supplies of a mask widely used during the 2003 Sars outbreak in Hong Kong are running low amid the mystery pneumonia scare in the city, with some retailers doubling prices of limited stocks.

At least three online platforms and 15 of the 21 pharmacies contacted by the Post said they had no more N95 respirators, but a doctor assured the public there was no need for panic buying as there was no sign yet of the disease spreading from the mainland Chinese city of Wuhan.

As of Monday, 59 cases were reported in Wuhan, with 21 suspected infections in Hong Kong. Some of the local cases have been found to involve known viruses or the flu, with others still pending test results.

There has been no confirmed case outside the mainland city or evidence to suggest human-to-human transmission, according to health authorities there...

Meanwhile, the HA Central Committee on Infectious Disease and Emergency Responses held another ad hoc meeting today to discuss the latest progress of the cluster of cases of Severe Respiratory Disease associated with a Novel Infectious Agent in Wuhan.

The HA reiterated that the current stockpile of personal protection equipment (PPE), such as surgical masks and N95 respirators, is adequate for three months' consumption, which has been calculated with reference to the usage during the swine influenza pandemic in 2009. The HA has also set up hotlines for front-line staff to enquire about issues of PPE and linen supply.

Regarding isolation beds, 503 isolation beds with negative pressure facilities are immediately available currently and the present occupancy is 60 per cent. The HA will closely monitor the utilisation and could mobilise the other 900 isolation beds with negative pressure facilities if needed.

The HA will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
