Three People Died Of Dengue Last Week
KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 (Bernama) -- Three people died of dengue fever last week bringing the death toll this year to 43 compared to 37 in 2009.
Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said two death cases were in Selangor while the other was in Sarawak.
He said they died of complications from haemorrhagic dengue fever in risky areas with aedes breeding of 3.4-3.8 percent.
Dengue cases declined 11 percent to 797 cass compared to 898 the previous week making 12,157 accumulated cases compared to 14,108 cases last year.
Dr Mohd Ismail said despite less cases, the number of death cases increased 16 percent compared to last year.
Highly active breeding of aedes at "hotspots" were still being reported in Selangor, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan.
He said clean-up operations had been done at 13 of the 60 "hotspots" to rid the areas of mosquito breeding grounds.
On Chikungunya, he said 14 cases were reported last week compared to 39 the previous week bringing the total this year to 500 compared to 1,116 in 2009.
All the Chikungunya cases were reported in three areas in Sarawak.
