10 UT students may have swine flu

Ten students at the University of Tennessee are exhibiting flu-like symptoms, but it hasn't been confirmed as H1N1, commonly known as swine flu.
UT spokesman Jay Mayfield said health officials are treating it as the swine flu, since this isn't the season for the common flu.
The sick students were instructed to go home if they live nearby or stay in their resident halls for 24 hours until their symptoms subside.
According to Mayfield, the university expected the virus and prepared for it. He said school leaders distributed flyers about swine flu and how to protect yourself against it. They also sent notes to staff and faculty about students missing class due to the illness.
Although officials discussed cancelling sorority recruitment, they decided the outbreak wasn't severe enough to warrant it. The school is also continuing to hold classes as usual.
Mayfield said the school plans to give out H1N1 vaccinations sometime this fall, but details haven't been finalized. UT's regular flu vaccinations are scheduled for Sept. 16 at 11-4:30 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom. It costs $20 and is open to UT students, staff and faculty.
