More Than 1,000 Cases Of Swine Flu Reported In Miss.

JACKSON, Miss. -- The Mississippi Department of Health confirmed Tuesday that a Jones County woman became the eighth death related to swine-flu in the state.
Swine flu deaths have been reported in Hancock (2), Jackson, Jones (3), Tippah and Washington counties, health officials said.
The number of confirmed cases of non-fatal swine flu in Mississippi has risen to 1,032, MSDH said.

Symptoms of swine flu in humans are similar to those of seasonal flu, with fever, respiratory symptoms and body aches. According to the Health Department, many of the swine flu deaths nationwide were among people with pre-existing health conditions.
The first health vaccines are arrive around the country, but it could be a little while longer before they arrive in Mississippi, health officials said Tuesday.
Officials at the University of Mississippi Medical Center said doses of the swine flu vaccine should arrive by the end of this week or early next week but those aren't for the general public.
UMC will vaccinate staff, patients and workers who deal with high-risk patients, like the elderly, small children and pregnant women.
MSDH hasn't said when the vaccine will be available to the general public.
Dr. Skip Nolan recommends that parents get their children vaccinated for swine flu when they are able to do so.
"Any pharmaceutical you get -- whether its an aspirin or Tylenol -- has potential side effects. But overall, the track record for the vaccine is very good and the risk of serious side effects is really small," Nolan said.
