MOULTRIE ? As Southwest Georgia had its first flu fatality of the 2013-2014 season, health officials are noticing a somewhat disturbing trend: the disease seems to be hitting younger adults harder than usual.
A 39-year-old Dougherty County man was confirmed Thursday as the first to die from the disease in the Southwest Public Health District. More than 20 have died statewide.
There were 10 confirmed influenza fatalities last year in the state.
?Not one of the deaths has been (someone) 65 or older,? said Department of Public Health spokeswoman Nancy Nydam. ?That?s a little odd.?
