  • Bronchial illnesses increasing

AUSTIN (KXAN) - With school now well underway and the temperatures getting gradually cooler, expect to see full-blown cold and flu season soon. We got a variety of reports this week from Central Texan physicians.

At Dell Children's Medical Center Dr. Pat Crocker tells us he is seeing an increase in bronchial issues earlier than usual this year. The illnesses are increasing about a month earlier than most years. Most are caused by viruses and cause fever, cough, chest congestion and sometimes wheezing. The symptoms can be more serious in very young children.

At St. David's Georgetown Hospital, Dr. Johnathan Conner is seeing more viral illnesses, including gastrointestinal and respiratory issues and also strep throat.

At Seton Medical Center Williamson, physicians have seen a rise in gastrointestinal illnesses. Most of them are viral. Doctors are seeing the same type of symptoms like vomiting, fever and diarrhea over at Scott & white Healthcare in Round Rock.

Now here is your reminder to get that flu shot sooner rather than later. Dr. Corey Jones over at St. David's Medical Center in Central Austin has already seen cases of flu in the emergency department.
