    Highly pathogenic avian influenza confirmed in Oklahoma flock

    ​On Oct. 16 the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry announced that a mixed poultry flock in Carter County, Oklahoma, had tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza. While HPAI is unlikely to be contracted by humans or other livestock, it is extremely contagious to birds and fatal in almost all cases.     Four Oklahoma counties now reporting highly contagious, lethal avian flu in backyard flocks

    The highly contagious avian flu has now been reported in backyard poultry flocks in Carter, Wagoner and Grady Counties.

    It's also been found in a domestic swan in Oklahoma County.

    OSU's Ag Extension division wants poultry producers and backyard flock owners to be on high alert. They also recommend adhering to strict biosecurity protocols to prevent flocks from catching avian influenza.​..
