    Updated.

    We do not necessarily parrot the CDC count. We evaluate reasonable data and make an independent decision which cases to list. We use the CDC confirmed data and add confirmed state data if deemed reliable. We also use research data if verifiable and reliable. Therefore, our case count is slightly different than the official number.

    Also, of course, there are the many Texas dairy farmworkers who reported mild symptoms who were recovered but never tested from the April time frame.

        I copied this post from another thread. Our count is a little different, but close. The CDC is not counting the 2 Texas dairy cattle workers who had low titers who were mentioned in a research paper.

          I have reviewed again the paper that cites the 2 farmworkers with low titers (#15 & #16 above). We are going to keep them on our list because of the credibility of the authors. link

          While we closely monitor and use the official case lists, we are not connected to any government and we make our own determinations.

              I am so mad. I wanted to reconcile my list with the CDC line (case) list AND THERE ISN'T ONE.

              This is so bad. Basic epidemiology in an outbreak....a case list. There are 34 or 35 confirmed cases to date....of H5N1 avian flu -

              IN HUMANS.

              Basic stuff: sex, age or age range, onset date, hospitalization date, release date - or date estimates, general location... i.e Central valley, California....this format does not violate any patient privacy.

              There is no way to construct any orderly case list without this basic information.

              So unprofessional and frankly, reckless. wth.

                There is now inconsistent evidence that there were two cases in Missouri from the same household with no occupational exposure. None of the healthcare workers were seropositive. https://www.cdc.gov/bird-flu/spotlig...y-testing.html

                  Latest update by the CDC but it is not accurate. Please see post 1 for a more correct accounting. Plus, there are a few more apparently with tests pending....

                    A(H5) bird flu is causing outbreaks in wild birds and poultry, other animals and sporadic human case

                    Our list by state to be consistent with the above CDC format:

                    California = 15, all cattle contact

                    Colorado = 10, 1 cattle contact & 9 poultry contacts

                    Michigan - 2, both cattle contact

                    Missouri - 2, unknown source - CDC only counts 1 of these cases

                    Texas - 3, all cattle, CDC only counts 1 of these cases. 2 other cases cited in a research paper. It is possible one of the cases in the paper is the same case ackowledged by the CDC. Without a real CDC line list is impossible to know with certainty.

                    Washington - 4, all poultry contact, CDC only confirms 2 of these cases but more tests are pending.

                    ----------------------------

                    Our total = 36

                    CDC total = 31

                    the difference is:

                    1 in Missouri (only one assay positive for this case but had same symptoms as confirmed case at the same time),

                    2 in Texas (one might be a double count),

                    2 in Washington state (most likely will be confirmed by the CDC).

                        Our list by state:

                        California = 16, most probably all are dairy cattle contact

                        Colorado = 10, 1 cattle contact & 9 poultry contacts

                        Michigan - 2, both cattle contact

                        Missouri - 2, unknown source - CDC only counts 1 of these cases

                        Texas - 3, all cattle, CDC only counts 1 of these cases. 2 other cases are cited in a research paper. It is possible one of the cases in the paper is the same case acknowledged by the CDC. Without a real CDC line list it is impossible to know with certainty.

                        Washington - 5, all poultry contact

                        Total = 38
