National Academy of Medicine asks the authorities to acquire means of diagnosis and treatment for avian flu

"It is not known whether the avian influenza viruses and the other influenza viruses of zoonotic origin that are currently circulating will give rise to a pandemic in the future," the agency's directive stressed.
The National Academy of Medicine on Friday urged the country's health authorities to acquire the necessary means for the diagnosis and treatment of bird flu.
He also called for constant surveillance of both animal populations and humans.
"Human beings can contract the bird flu virus and other flu viruses of animal origin," recalled the Academy's board of directors. "It is not known whether currently circulating avian influenza viruses and other zoonotic influenza viruses will lead to a pandemic in the future," she stressed.
It has been detected in 10 countries of the American continent, including Venezuela. “According to PAHO, no human cases of avian influenza have been reported in Venezuela; however, human cases have been reported in the United States, Ecuador, and Chile.”
