The State Department of Health of EspÃrito Santo (Sesa) reported on Wednesday, 17, which monitors 33 people who may have been exposed to the H5N1 avian influenza virus by contact with infected birds. According to the folder, one of the individuals had mild flu-like symptoms and is in isolation.
Field investigations began on Tuesday, 16, in the capital, Vitória, and in the municipalities of Cariacica and MarataÃzes. The focus was to identify people who had contact with contaminated birds. Last Monday, 15, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) issued an alert about the first cases detected in Brazil of avian influenza H5N1 in three wild birds on the coast of the state.
In Vitória, the 33 possible exposed to the virus were identified in Parque Fazendinha, a municipal unit with 23,000 m². Samples were collected, which were sent to the Central Laboratory of Public Health of EspÃrito Santo (Lacen-ES). This Thursday, 18, the material should be sent for analysis by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz). The secretariat said that there is no information about the deadline for disclosure of the results.
"Sesa clarifies that people who have had contact with birds diagnosed with avian influenza (H5N1 virus) should be monitored if they have flu-like symptoms for a period of ten days from contact with the contaminated bird or with suspected contamination," it said in a statement. "The population should strictly avoid contact with sick or dead birds, including wild birds."…https://veja.abril.com.br/saude/espi...-aviaria-h5n1/
