Severe influenza outbreak in WA hits children hardest according to hospital figures

Children are being hardest hit by the severe influenza outbreak that is currently sweeping WA and has seen almost 5800 people diagnosed with the virus so far this year.
Latest data reveals more than 3000 children have been taken to Perth emergency departments over the past two weeks suffering from the flu or a winter respiratory illness.
Perth Children?s Hospital emergency department was the busiest of the city?s EDs last week, with 650 children with flu symptoms going there for medical help.
Around 2750 people of all ages attended a metropolitan emergency department last week, compared to around 1200 on average this time last year.
The new figures, which were released by the WA health department today, demonstrate the early and brutal nature of this year?s flu season...
