    At least 3 children died and several others were admitted to hospital following a 'mysterious fever' in the last three days at Raniganj village of Bihar's Araria district, officials told news agency PTI. Even as the family members of the deceased claimed that the children died due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), or brain fever, an illness locally known as "Chamki Bukhar", the district administration maintained that medical experts are trying to find out the exact reason behind the death.

Raunak Kumar died on Saturday, while Ankush Kumar and Gauri Kumar died on Sunday and Monday respectively. Villagers claimed that many children suffering from mysterious fever have been admitted to the nearest government hospital. Araria District Magistrate (DM) Inayat Khan said that three children have died in Raniganj village in the last three days ... Family members have said that the children were suffering from symptoms like cough-cold and pneumonia. A team of medical experts has been sent to the village to analyse the situation and find other patients suffering from cough, cold and pneumonia-like symptoms. He said the civil surgeon is monitoring the situation.

    The district magistrate said, "The exact cause of the death of the children is not known as the family members have already cremated them. Three more children from the village are suffering from pneumonia-like symptoms and have been admitted to the government hospital. Doctors are constantly monitoring their condition. We are keeping a close watch on the situation and the cause of death of the children will be known only after the report of the medical experts comes."
