Press release
June 7, 2023
Following the identification of several cases of "Cryptosporidiosis" identified in the West of the Alpes-Maritimes (see press release of 02/06/2023), here is the new information to remember and the municipalities concerned by the precautionary measures: Saint Cézaire, Peymeinade, Le Tignet, Spéracèdes and Cabris.
22 people have been diagnosed so far. A reinforced surveillance system for new cases has been set up by ARS PACA in conjunction with the analysis laboratories. The ARS has not yet identified any aggravating factors or hospitalizations linked to this episode.
To date, the results of water analyzes have not revealed the presence of cryptosporidium in the water network of the 5 municipalities concerned. Nevertheless, the detection of this parasite in water being difficult, additional analyzes are in progress and measures to restrict the use of water are maintained as a precaution.
Can we drink tap water?
The population of the municipalities concerned (listed above), and more particularly immunocompromised people and infants, are reminded to:
consume bottled water or boil tap water for 2 minutes before consuming it or using it for food preparation;
prepare bottles with bottled water;
wash your hands regularly
Tap water can always be used for cooking food, showering, household uses (dishes, laundry, etc.).
As the germ is transmissible, it is also recommended that all sick people or those in contact with sick people apply the strictest hygiene measures (hand washing, use of hydro-alcoholic gel).
Finally, to secure the water used in schools and nurseries, filters have been installed in these establishments.
