Bird flu: Winsford swans and geese put down over suspected outbreak
    Published 51 minutes ago

A possible outbreak of bird flu is being investigated after 46 wild birds had to be euthanised at a marina.

The RSPCA said 37 geese and nine swans had been found "showing signs of distress" at Winsford Marina in Cheshire since Friday.

A spokeswoman said the birds "were in such a suffering state that the kindest thing to do was to put them to sleep".

She said the deaths had been referred to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

The UK is currently facing its largest ever outbreak of the H5N1 virus, with over 60 cases confirmed since the start of November...

Bird flu has been confirmed in Canada geese in a city's parks.

The A(H5N1) strain of avian influenza has been found in geese in Cannon Hill Park and Witton Lakes in Birmingham, the city council said.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) in the West Midlands said avian flu is also suspected in the deaths of water fowl at the Swanswell and Quinton Pool in Coventry.

Avian flu confirmed in Coventry park's Canada geese
          Published 4 hours ago

Bird flu has been confirmed among Canada geese in a city park.

Avian influenza had been suspected as the reason behind the deaths of water fowl at the Swanswell Park in Coventry.

The city council said it has now been confirmed and has urged people not to touch any sick or dead wild birds in the area.

It said the A(H5N1) strain is highly pathogenic to poultry and other birds, but the risk to human health is very low if people follow the guidance.

On Saturday it was confirmed that bird flu had been found in geese in Cannon Hill Park and Witton Lakes in Birmingham...

Bird flu: Doncaster Lakeside warning after cases confirmed
                Published 56 minutes ago
A warning has been issued after dead birds found near a South Yorkshire lake were found to have avian influenza.

The creatures found at Doncaster Lakeside in December tested positive for bird flu, the council said.

It warned people not touch or pick up dead or sick birds and to avoid droppings in the town's parks and lakeside areas.

The news came amid England's largest outbreak of the H5N1 virus, with 68 confirmed cases since November.

The UK Health Security Agency has said bird flu is primarily a infection of birds and the risk to human health is very low.

Doncaster Council said it was working with the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to control the spread of the disease to other birds...

                  Published 17 minutes ago

The recent deaths of a number of swans at a Nottinghamshire nature reserve are likely to have been caused by bird flu, a wildlife trust has said.

There have been reports of several dead swans being found at Attenborough Nature Reserve during the past week.

Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust said the deaths had been reported to the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra)...

Avian flu: Second case confirmed in the north of the Isle of Man
                      Published 5 hours ago

A second case of avian flu has been found in the north of the Isle of Man.

Samples taken from five feral cockerels and roosters found dead on Monday at Tholt-y-Will confirmed they died from the highly-contagious H5N1 virus.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA) said any remaining birds from the colony would now be culled.

It comes after the island's first case of avian flu was identified on Sunday in a flock of geese at Sulby...

Bird flu confirmed in five gulls after 'well over' 30 found dead on Cornwall beach
                            Thursday 3 February 2022, 12:30pm

More than 30 dead birds have been found on a single beach in Cornwall.

Five of the gulls collected by Government officials were found to have had bird flu when they died.

Rachel Gregory says she was walking her dogs on Long Rock beach, near Penzance, when she came across "well over" 30 dead sea gulls all within a short distance of one another.

Rachel, who found the birds on January 18, said: "It was very unusual and quite disturbing, as I’m used to seeing the occasional dead bird, but never so many so close together."
