Slovakia Reports First Two Bird Flu Cases
    21 February 2006 | 10:29 | FOCUS News Agency

Bratislava. Initial tests in Slovakia showed the H5 strain of bird flu in a wild falcon and a grebe, the first two cases of the virus to be found in the country, Agriculture Minister Zsolt Simon said on Tuesday cited by Reuters.

He said the National Reference Laboratory was now testing the samples for the H5N1 strain of the bird flu that is deadly to humans.

Results of the tests should be available on Friday. The samples were also sent to the EU's reference lab in Weybridge, Britain, for testing.
