Human West Nile virus case reported in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is warning Missourians to be cautious after a surge in West Nile virus cases.
Twenty-two human cases of the virus have been confirmed in the state, with three resulting in death, this year. Of those cases, only two were laboratory confirmed, according to the DHSS.
On Oct. 16, the Jefferson County Health Department announced a positive case in that area. The resident who contracted West Nile was hospitalized.

“We did have a human case reported in Jefferson County back in (Aug. 20),” Brianne Zwiener, communications manager for the Jefferson County Health Department, said.
She said she was not immediately made aware of the local human case because it was a “probable” case and “not lab confirmed.”..
