Alerts plague of bats with rabies in Tingo María

Huánuco, 18/11/2009 (CNR) - Officials of Agriculture and Health of Tingo Maria evaluated declare the alert against a possible plague of bats whose bites transmit rabies, a disease that has already killed two people in the district of Cholon, Marañón Province (Huanuco).

Thumb Germain, regional director of Agriculture, said the allegations are constant attacks by these animals. In this regard, he called on those affected to go immediately to health facilities to treat injuries and prevent fatalities.

For now, farmers in the area reported that their cattle and poultry are the most affected by the presence of bats. Producers fear that they may come to infect people with the disease.

Meanwhile, officials of the Health Network in the province of Leoncio Prado acknowledged that, despite the two deaths, have not received orders or supplies to start a campaign to eliminate or prevent further bat rabies cases.
