    Kidney disease outbreak declared

    The outbreak of a kidney disease primarily affecting Aboriginal children in Kimberley communities has been declared by health chiefs.

    The WA Country Health Service said Acute Post Streptococcal Glomerulonephritis (APSGN) was affecting indigenous children aged two to 13 although infants, adolescents and adults could also be affected.

    The disease can develop after certain skin and throat infections and cannot be passed on to other people.

    But the bacteria that causes the infections can be transmitted from person to person.

    WACHS disease control manager Ashley Eastwood said while APSGN was most common in children, it could cause long-term health problems in adults...
