      City reports 1st H7N9 case in 2015
By Cai Wenjun | January 19, 2015, Monday
SHANGHAI?S first case of H7N9 bird flu this year was reported over the weekend.

The Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission said a 69-year-old local man, surnamed Zhang, was confirmed to have the infection on Saturday and is undergoing treatment.

However, it did not say how or where Zhang became infected. Close contact with infected poultry, such as at live poultry markets, is a common source of transmission.

The previous case was reported in December, when a 38-year-old local man, surnamed Sheng, was confirmed to have the infection on December 6.

He was earlier reported to be undergoing treatment, though there has been no recent update of his condition.

Sheng was the ninth human case of H7N9 last year, with the remaining eight cases reported in January.
