    The Ministry of Public Health and Social-MOH, reported last Friday 09 March that the country's hospital network declared yellow alert due to influenza cases reported in the country, especially in the Capital City, San Marcos , Alta Verapaz, Baja Verapaz, Zacapa, El Progreso, Jalapa, Jutiapa and Santa Rosa.

    The information was announced at a press conference given by Perez Roberto Bran, Deputy MOH Hospitals, who said that so far have been detected 493 suspected cases of influenza A-H1N1, of which 55 were confirmed and forced take action and exercise strict control over the hospital network for the disease from spreading.

    The Deputy Minister of Hospitals said a group of seven children who died last week in Zacapa, it was confirmed that 2 died of influenza A-H1N1, while 3 more died of influenza type B and the cause the death of 2 more is not yet established. He said that in the City Capital 2 cases were detected, the first in the Hospital General San Juan de Dios and the other at Roosevelt Hospital.

    MOH reportedly the most vulnerable to the disease are children under five and elderly people. In schools there have been no cases so far but remains vigilant because the outbreak is estimated to take four months. So far 2 000 vaccines are available from Venezuela.

    As part of measures taken by authorities of the hospital network for the time in hospital visits are restricted to patients in all areas to prevent a possible outbreak and recommends that people wash their hands often with soap or disinfectants have alcohol as a base.

    Authorities General Hospital San Juan de Dios indicate that the most common symptoms are cough, fever, runny nose, headache, nails that turn a bluish color and difficulty breathing, also indicate that those who manifest such symptoms should seek the center nearest health.
