Influenza Weekly Report
Summary
Seventy-nine laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza have been reported in NL to the end of week one, January 4, 2014.
Across Canada, influenza A remains the predominant strain (>90%) with the majority of subtyped (approximately 90%) being A(H1N1)pdm09.
Promote vaccination and preventative actions especially the 3 ?Cs?: Clean your hands, Cover your cough, and Contain your illness.
Laboratory-Confirmed Cases
There were 30 new laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza in week one, December 29, 2013 to January 4, 2014. In comparison, last year there were 110 new lab-confirmed cases in week one.
