    Published Sunday, June 13, 2021 10:05AM EDT

Ontario reported 530 new COVID-19 cases and seven additional deaths on Sunday, as the province’s known active caseload hit its lowest point since Aug., 2020.

Ontario reported 502 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, and 574 on Friday.

The seven-day rolling average of new cases now stands at 514, down from 533 yesterday.

There are now 5,601 known active cases of novel coronavirus infection across the province, the lowest this number has reached since Aug. 8, 2020, when there were 5,442 active cases.

Across the GTA, Toronto reported 102 new cases, Peel reported 81, York Region reported 14 additional cases and Durham reported 21 new cases.

Halton reported 21 cases and Hamilton reported 24 new cases.

One of the deaths reported on Sunday involved a resident of the long-term care system.

Outside of the GTA, two regions continue to see troubling spikes in cases. Porcupine Public Health, including the Timmins, Ont. area, reported 68 new cases on Sunday.

Its chief medical officer of health now says transmission has reached 300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, more than seven times the rate of transmission in Toronto...

'Case numbers are crumbling;' Ontario reports fewer than 500 new cases of COVID-19
Chris Fox, Web Content Writer, CP24
      Published Monday, June 14, 2021 10:16AM EDT
Last Updated Monday, June 14, 2021 10:39AM EDT

Ontario is reporting fewer than 500 new cases of COVID-19 for the first time in nearly a week and its rolling seven-day average is now the lowest it has been since late September.

The Ministry of Health says that there were 447 new cases of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus confirmed on Sunday, down from 525 at this time last week.

The new rolling seven-day average now stands at 503, which is the lowest that number has been since Sept. 29.

The Ministry of Health is also reporting another four deaths over the last 24 hours.

“As you can see now case numbers are crumbling including the Delta variant,” infectious disease specialist Dr. Isaac Bogoch told CP24 on Monday, prior to the release of the latest numbers. “Even though the Delta variant is spreading and taking over as a more dominant variant it is still also fair to say that its numbers are going down. Will that be the case moving forward? I don’t know but currently that is what is happening.”

Ontario’s case numbers have been steadily declining for months now and though there are fears that the Delta variant first detected in India could fuel a fourth wave, Ontario’s science table co-chair Dr. Adalsteinn Brown did say last week that such a scenario was “highly unlikely” given the pace of the province’s vaccine rollout.

The latest cases confirmed on Sunday came as the province’s labs processed just 13,588 tests, which is the lowest number in any single 24-hour period in more than a year (May 26, 2020).

About 2.8 per cent of tests came back positive.

That marks an increase on the seven-day average of 2.3 per cent but is roughly in line with the positivity rate at this time last week when weekend testing volumes were also low.

Meanwhile, the situation in Ontario’s hospitals continues to improve.

As of Sunday, there were 409 people with COVID-19 receiving treatment in intensive care units. That is down from a peak of 900 last month. At least 20 ICU beds are filled with COVID-19 patients transferred from Manitoba.

It should be noted that public health officials have said in the past the number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care will have to be around 200 before most hospitals are able to return to something approaching normal operations...

Ontario is reporting fewer than 300 new COVID-19 cases for the first time since mid-September.

Provincial health officials logged 296 new COVID-19 cases today, down from 447 on Monday and 530 on Sunday.

It is the lowest single-day total reported since Sept. 17 when 293 new

The rolling seven-day average of new infections now stands at 479 in Ontario, down from 703 just one week ago.

With 17,162 tests processed over the past 24 hours, the provincewide positivity rate today is 2.3 per cent, according to the Ministry of Health.

Ontario's active caseload is now 5,012, down from 7,378 last week.

Another 13 virus-related deaths were confirmed today. Two of the dead were residents in the long-term care system.

The number of patients infected with COVID-19 at Ontario hospitals is 433 today, up slightly from 384 on Monday. It should be noted that hospitalization data released on Monday is often lower than the true total due to a lack of reporting.

According to the province, intensive care admissions dropped below 400 today for the first time since late March.

The Ministry of Health says there are currently 382 COVID-19 patients in the ICU at Ontario hospitals, including approximately 25 patients from Manitoba...

Ontario reported 296 additional cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, the fewest on a single day since last September, as well as the deaths of 13 more people with the illness.

The rolling seven-day average of daily cases, one of the most critical indicators of the pandemic's growth or decline, is down to 479, its lowest point since Sept. 29, 2020. The measure peaked in Ontario at nearly 4,400 in April.

Labs completed 17,162 tests and Public Health Ontario logged a positivity rate of 2.3 per cent, down from last Tuesday's 2.7 per cent with a roughly similar number of tests.

TORONTO -- Ontario is reporting fewer than 400 new cases of COVID-19 for the sixth consecutive day.

The 318 infections logged Sunday mark a decrease from Saturday’s report when 355 were added.

Health officials added 345 cases on Friday, 370 on Thursday, 384 on Wednesday and a months-long low of 296 on Tuesday.

Labs across Ontario processed 21,063 COVID-19 tests in the last 24 hours, yielding a positivity rate of 1.7 per cent, according to the Ministry of Health.

The province’s case total now sits at 542,198, including 529,506 recoveries and 9,019 deaths, 12 of which were reported in the previous day.

Ontario reported another 270 cases of COVID-19 on Monday, the fewest on a single day in more than nine months, as more people in the province become eligible for a second dose of a vaccine.

As of 8 a.m. this morning, anyone who got a first shot of an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) on or before May 9 can book or reschedule their second dose, several weeks ahead of schedule.

Similarly, residents of 10 provincially-designated hot spots for the delta variant of concern who got a first dose before May 30 can move up their second shot on Wednesday.

The list of delta variant hot spots currently includes:

                    Toronto
                    Peel Region
                    York Region
                    Halton Region
                    Durham Region
                    Waterloo Region
                    Hamilton

                    Simcoe Muskoka

A shipment of Pfizer vaccines expected to arrive this week will be delayed several days, the Ministry of Health said over the weekend. As a result, many public health units will be offering only Moderna for second shots this week as more than one million doses landed in the province on Friday,

For the second day in a row, Ontario's daily COVID-19 case count has dipped below 300 and provincial health officials say today's tally is actually inflated due to a data cleanup.

Provincial health officials logged 296 new COVID-19 cases today, up slightly from 270 on Sunday and unchanged from the case count logged exactly one week ago.

But provincial health officials say an additional 80 cases from 2020 have been included in today's count as a result of a "data review and clean-up" by Toronto Public Health.

Sixty more virus-related deaths were confirmed today but provincial health officials say that number was also impacted by a separate data cleanup and 54 of those deaths should have been included in previous totals.

The rolling seven-day average of new cases in Ontario now stands at 334, down from 479 one week ago.

With 16,784 tests processed over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health is reporting a provincewide positivity rate of 1.6 per cent, down from 2.3 per cent last Tuesday.

There are now 3,248 active COVID-19 infections in Ontario, down from 5,012 last week.

Of the cases reported today, 123 are in Toronto, including the 80 additional cases from 2020, 61 are in Waterloo Region, 37 are in York Region, and 20 are in Peel.

Provincial health officials logged 296 new infections today, up from 255 on Wednesday but down from the 370 cases confirmed one week ago.

The rolling seven-day average of new infections is down week-over-week, from 443 last Thursday to 305 today.

With 29,514 tests completed in the past 24 hours, Ontario is reporting a provincewide positivity rate of 1.1 per cent, the lowest that number has been since September 25.

Six more virus-related deaths were reported in Ontario today.

Information released by individual public health units and hospitals indicates that there are at least 789 people with COVID-19 receiving treatment at Ontario hospitals.

According to the Ministry of Health, there are 300 COVID-19 patients in intensive care in Ontario hospitals, down from 362 last week.

The number of active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario now stands at 2,938, the lowest it has been since Sept. 19.

Of the new cases confirmed today, 95 are in Waterloo, 35 are in Toronto, 20 are in Peel Region, 19 are in Hamilton, and 17 are in Ottawa.

Today marks the lowest single-day case total in Toronto since Sept. 3.

Labs detected another 81 examples of the Delta B.1.617 coronavirus variant, bringing the total number of positive cases confirmed to 1,056 since early April.

As of today, 76 per cent of Ontario residents have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 29 per cent have received two doses.

The decline in new infections, hospitalizations, and deaths, coupled with th euptick in vaccinations in Ontario, has prompted the Ford government to move the province into Step 2 of the reopening plan earlier than expected...
