    The incidence of acute respiratory infections and pneumonia among population in this region of the country is continuously on the rise after the setting in of winter.

    The number of patients being registered with the acute respiratory infections and pneumonia at the three allied hospitals in town is on the rise, however, the patients admitted here have to suffer badly mainly because of the unavailability of quality medicines.

    To date in December, Benazir Bhutto Hospital received 88 cases of pneumonia of which 39 were admitted to the hospital. The Young Doctors Association informed ?The News? that 16 out of 39 died of the disease of which 11 were children below two years of age.

    Holy Family Hospital received 62 patients of pneumonia while District Headquarters Hospital received 76 patients in December.

    Health experts believe that cases of pneumonia can be treated easily if proper treatment facilities are made available at all healthcare facilities in the district...
