Zimbabwe: New swine flu cases hit Zimbabwe

Health authorities in Zimbabwe Friday reported a new outbreak of swine flu at a boarding school near the capital, Harare.

Mashonaland East provincial medical officer, Simukai Zizhou, said six cases of swine flu had been diagnosed at Beatrice Boarding School, some 50 kilometres south of Harare.

It was suspected that the outbreak, the second to hit the country, originated from South Africa, where two of the pupils - the first to fall ill - had recently been.

"The pupils who tested positive had been in South Africa for a holiday and they were the first to show signs of swine flu," Zizhou said, adding that all the infected pupils had been quarantined at the school, and receiving treatment.

Swine flu first broke out in Mexico last year, and has since spread to many parts of the world.

The first case of the disease was reported in Zimbabwe early this year..
