German fury as HUNDREDS of positive tests delayed - second wave panic
GERMANY is reeling after a coronavirus testing blunder meaning 44,000 people - including 900 confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 - have been waiting for their results for more than a fortnight.
Germany’s government urged citizens Wednesday to keep their guard up and stick to public health guidelines, as new COVID-19 infections hit a three-month high and schools reopened in the country's most populous state.
The country's disease control authority on Wednesday reported 1,226 new infections. That was the highest number since early May, although the figure has topped 1,000 on several days recently.

Germany: Thousands protest in Berlin against coronavirus curbs- Date 01.08.2020
- Author John Silk
Despite infections soaring once again in Germany and fears of a potential second wave, thousands of protesters gathered in Berlin on Saturday to demonstrate against coronavirus restrictions.
With few masks in sight, crowds whistled and cheered as they marched from the Brandenburg Gate to the German capital's Tiergarten park.
... The protest took place on the same day that German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier said he wanted tougher action on COVID-19 rule breakers.
"Anyone who deliberately endangers others must expect that this will have serious consequences for him," Altmaier said.
The number of infections in Germany has been on the rise recently. The surge has been attributed to the public becoming negligent on hygiene and social distancing rules, according to the Robert Koch Institute, the German government's disease control and prevention agency.
Berlin police said dozens of officers were injured — and three were hospitalized — while dispersing some 20,000 people protesting anti-pandemic measures. Many participants dismissed the coronavirus as a "false alarm."
