    16.04.2020 - 03:42
    Foreign ? Health ? COVID-19 ? Ecuador ? Central and South America

73 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the Galapagos Islands and two deaths from the disease. The vast majority of the infected are crew members on a passenger ship lying there at the dock. The Galapagos Islands belong to Ecuador and are on the UNESCO World Heritage Site because of their unique natural heritage, and this applies equally to vegetation and wildlife. The islands have secluded tourist sites around the world, about 1,000 kilometers west of the coast of Ecuador.

48 out of 69 Flora passenger ships have been detected with COVID-19, but no passengers are on board in Flora, rather than most other passenger ships these days.

75% of income comes from tourism

Galapagos governor Norman Wray said in a conversation with the AFP news agency that a total of 73 cases were identified on the islands and two deaths. Tourism is the main industry of island beards and returns them three out of every four bucks they make. Wray says tourism on the islands is now on its feet, as there are now only about 1,000 tourists. Most of them are Ecuadorians who decided not to return to the mainland after the curfew was imposed in Ecuador. It will be valid until the 19th of this month at least.
A total of almost 7,900 COVID-19 infections have been diagnosed in Ecuador since the coronary virus that caused the disease began to invade, with 388 deaths attributed to him. The worst is the situation in Guayas province and the provincial capital of Guayaquil. where about 70 percent of all infected people are home.
