H5N1 Family Cluster in West Jakarta in 2009
During the calendar year of 2009, Indonesia failed to report human H5N1 cases to WHO as required by International Health Regulations. Finally, on December 28, 2009 the Ministry of Health in Indonesia, DEPKES, announced a total 20 human cases for 2009 with 19 deaths. See: http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=137869
No information was ever released on any of these cases, and even now, two years later, WHO simply notes these case in its summary table as ?Indonesia numbers indicate cumulative total of sporadic cases and deaths which occurred during 2009.?
The translation in paragraph 2 below sheds light on two or perhaps three of these 20 cases from Indonesia in 2009. The translation indicates that there was a family cluster of H5N1 infections in early June (?) 2009 in West Jakarta where a mother, her child, and a nephew were infected. The mother died and the two children apparently survived. Obviously, this cluster did not result in a human outbreak of H5N1 in Jakarta, but the lack of timely reporting of H5N1 cases by the Indonesian government is disturbing. Also, the fact that two individuals in this cluster survived, yet the official DEPKES report only identified one survivor in 2009, calls into question the official reporting policies for H5N1 cases by the government of Indonesia.

Afterwards on July 3 2009, the Mayor issued the second and third warning so that the owner/the TPA manager to close his efforts activity at the latest 3?24 the hour. But the warning was not heeded. Because of the livestock breeding businessman not respond to then on July 3 2009 the owner/the manager TPA was then invited to to the Office Mayor Jakarta West through the invitation letter from Sekko [City Secretary] Jakarta West (Sekko at that time) H Fatahillah No 5043/1.823.54 on August 7 2009 concerning the closing notification on Friday (14/8/2009).
However, not attended the invitation, the owner "Mrs. Ng" provocatively showed and tore this letter in front of the official who checked the letter to the location. "The problem ripping the letter thus had discussed and considered to violate the law and the insult to the official of the government, as well as was made by the record apart from seizing the piece of the letter as the material evidence. But the problem of the authority to close that not the authority of Assistant Livestock Service," said Kusdiana.
The poultry farm localized in Kapok
Kusdiana explained to localize the reception and the slaughter in the chicken in a legal manner, West Jakarta Mayor has proposed to the Special Capital District of Jakarta Provincial Government in the location of the land owned by Pertamina [state-owned national oil company] Kapuk Village measuring 2,7 Hectares. "The Pertamina side manager and the Official Livestock together agree to, the Livestock Service had authority as the manager and supervised this management of reduction efforts" he stressed.
Hoped the location of the reduction in the chicken could in the Kapuk Village be realised fast to more order especially avoiding the emergence of the bird flu illness. "The mayor has instructed all the abattoirs of the wild chicken available must be closed" said Kusdiana.
