  • HK reports another flu A/H1N1 death

HONG KONG, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- A Hong Kong hospital reported another death case of flu A/H1N1 on Monday, which probably brought the death toll to 18 in the year of 2011.

According to the hospital, the 63-year-old female patient died Monday due to continued deterioration of clinical condition.

Hong Kong's Secretary for Food and Health York Chow revealed on Sunday that there had been "about 17" reported death cases of flu A/H1N1 this year.

In response to the recent influenza situation in Hong Kong, the Hospital Authority (HA), in close collaboration with the Center for Health Protection, has activated the enhanced monitoring system for severe influenza patients staying in the intensive care units of public hospitals.

The HA spokesman said as of 2 p.m. Monday, four new cases of flu A/H1N1 had been confirmed over the past 72 hours, including a 63-year-old female patient, a 55-year-old male patient and a 48- year-old male patient, who are in critical condition. Another patient is a 29-month-old girl who is in serious condition.

Currently, there are a total of 26 influenza patients staying in the intensive care units of public hospitals in Hong Kong, including the four newly confirmed cases.
