اعلنت وزارة الصحة المصرية اليوم الجمعة عن وفاة الحالة رقم 26 نتيجة اصابتها بمرض انفلونزا الطيور، وذلك منذ ظهور المرض في مصر عام 2006.

The Egyptian Health Ministry on Friday in the death of the No. 26 hit a result of bird flu, since the disease appeared in Egypt in 2006.

وذكر بيان صادر عن وزارة الصحة المصرية ان الحالة لسيدة تبلغ من العمر 33 سنة من احدى مدن محافظة كفر الشيخ، مشيراً الى ان السيدة ادخلت مستشفى الحميات منتصف الشهر الجاري وكانت مصابة بارتفاع شديد في الحرارة وضيق في التنفس.

According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Health said the woman, aged 33 years of one of towns in the province of Kafr el-Sheikh, adding that the woman admitted to hospital diets mid this month and was suffering from high fever and severe shortness of breath.

واضاف البيان ان التحاليل أكدت اصابتها بمرض أنفلونزا الطيور نتيجة مخالطتها لطيور منزلية مصابة.

The statement added that the tests confirmed positive for bird flu due to contact with infected domestic birds.

يذكر ان حالات الاصابة بالمرض في مصر وصل عددها الى 68 اصابة. The cases of the disease in Egypt, there were 68 injury.

وتبذل الحكومة المصرية جهودا حثيثة من اجل احتواء الاصابة بفيروس انفلونزا الطيور والحد من انتشاره وتدعو من خلال وسائل الاعلام الى تجنب الاختلاط نهائيا بأي طيور الا بعد اتخاذ تدابير احترازية.

The Egyptian government is making strenuous efforts to contain the bird flu virus and reduce the spread of the disease and calls through the media to avoid mixing with any birds, but finally after the adoption of precautionary measures.

Reporting from Cairo -- Beyond smokestacks and whipped donkeys, past fish curled on dirty ice and sparrows skimming laundry hanging in alleys, the death of 6-year-old Ali Mohammed Ali brought mystery, health inspectors and truckloads of police to a poor Cairo neighborhood.

Ali, a first-grader and computer wizard from Shubra el Kheima, died last week in a hospital, his lungs full of fluid, a stent in his chest. Health officials say he had bird flu, but they can't pinpoint where he picked it up: The market, the school, on the rooftops with the pigeon keepers or on a recent trip to his grandfather's village in the Nile Delta?


Nobody knows. Homes and classrooms have been disinfected, neighborhood poultry has been confiscated and culled, and the man splitting chicken breasts with a machete next to the baker keeps watch for police in case he has to disappear in a hurry. There is alarm and nonchalance, talk of a health epidemic, grumbles of conspiracy.

"The Health Ministry came. They checked our flat, they took our blood. They tested everyone in this building for infection," said Ali's mother, Aleya Ismail. "But still they don't know how it got into my son. Where can I raise poultry here? Under the bed? How could this virus have found him?"

Egypt has had 65 cases of bird flu, including 26 deaths, since 2006 -- the highest national toll outside Asia, where the virus, designated as H5N1, was believed to have first appeared in humans in 1997.

A five-year-old Egyptian girl has contracted the highly pathogenic bird flu virus after coming into contact with infected birds, the state news agency MENA reported on Sunday.


The case brings to 69 the number of people confirmed to have contracted the H5N1 avian influenza virus in Egypt, which has been hit harder than any another country outside Asia.

While the avian influenza virus rarely infects people, experts say they fear it could mutate into a form people could easily pass to one another, sparking a pandemic that could kill millions.

MENA, citing the Health Ministry, said the girl from Sohag province was admitted to hospital on Saturday. It said she was being treated with the anti-viral drug Tamiflu and was in a stable condition.

Some 26 Egyptians have died after contracting the virus.

Most of those infected had come into contact with infected domestic birds in a country where roughly 5 million households depend on domestically raised poultry as a significant source of food and income.

Last month, Egypt ordered the culling of all the country's 300,000 to 400,000 pigs as a precaution against the new H1N1 influenza strain, also known as swine flu.

The World Health Organisation on Sunday reported 4,379 people in 29 countries have been infected by the new virus. No cases have been reported in Egypt.

NAMRU-3: Avian Flu in Egypt Reached High Risk Stage

A report issued by the Third Medical Research Unit of the US navy (NAMRU-3) said Egypt is the most country infected with avian flu outside of Asia, despite control measures.

The report, of which Al-Masry Al-Youm got a copy, said 71% of the infected patients received medical treatment within 3 days of the symptoms.

It also said the government sent NAMRU-3 941 samples in February and March, of which 934 samples were under the Seasonal Influenza Control Program, and 7 samples to be examined for (H5 N1) and (HPAI).

It pointed out that among the 63 confirmed cases recorded in Egypt between March 2006 and March 2009, there were 23 serious infections.

The report used the term 'epidemic curve' when it addressed the evolution of the disease in Egypt, where the number jumped from 18 cases in 2006 to 12 cases in the first quarter of this year alone.

It revealed that infections have increased among children less than 5 years of age and females between 10 and 39 years, pointing out that female infection reached 60%, a rate that is much greater than the global rates.

It said Egypt ranked third in the global infection rate with a 14% infection rate as registered by the World Health Organization in March. Indonesia is ranked first with 34% and Vietnam second with 26%.

The report also said the infection covered all of Egypt in 2007, when it was only in the Delta in 2006.

Seasonal H1N1 and H3N2, as well as swine H1N1 and avian H5N1 will all give a positive on an influenza A test. Swine H1N1 and avian H5N1 however, will not sub-type with standard reagents, which are directed against human seasonal flu.

These swine H1N1 isolates are confirmed with additional tests that are specific for swine H1N1. However, H5N1 will also test negative on the swine H1N1 test, which will signal another serotype (or evolution of the swine H1N1) and require additional testing.

Detection bias and poor diagnostic sensitivity are both serious concerns now that reports of afebrile Novel A/H1N1 infections are suggested in Mexico and H5N1 infections are increasingly reported among those without poultry contact.
