        BERITAJAKARTA.COM ? 5/17/2010 9:00:02 PM

Dengue fever remains a threat for Central Jakarta residents. Since January to May 2010, there were already 958 dengue fever cases recorded in the area. The highest number of cases was in Kemayoran sub-district with 254 cases.

While in May there have been 13 dengue fever cases, with victims aged between 15 to 44 years old. "Fortunately, the cases do not claim lives," she said, Monday (5/17).

Details of the 13 cases in May are; 2 cases in Gambir, 2 in Senen, 3 in Cempakaputih, 1 in Joharbaru, and 5 in Menteng. Looking at the number of dengue fever cases in May last year reaching 194 cases, the numbers hopefully do not significantly increase. To minimize the circulation of dengue mosquitoes, Angliana called on public to actively carry out the Mosquito Nest Eradication Program (PSN) on Fridays, and not fully submit the program implementation to the mosquito-larva monitoring officers (jumantik) numbering only 9,416 people.

City Sees Drop in Dengue Fever Cases
          BERITAJAKARTA.COM ? 5/19/2010 8:28:48 PM

Intensive activities of mosquito eradication program (PSN) conducted by Jakarta government together with residents have led to encouraging results. It can be seen from the decline in the number of dengue fever cases in Jakarta from January until 17 May 2010.

Data from Jakarta Health Agency shows there were only 8,388 dengue fever cases recorded during the period, drastically down from 18,343 cases in the same period of last year. Jakarta also sees its Case Vitality rate (CVR) of dengue fever lower than the national CVR. The city?s CVR is 0.02 percent, while the national rate settles at 1 percent.

"We have seen a drastic decline, thanks to PSN on Fridays," said Head of Health Control Division of Jakarta Health Agency, Ida Bagus Nyoman Banjar, Wednesday (5/19).

During the period of January to 17 May 2010, the highest number of dengue cases occurred in March with 2,560 cases claiming three lives, followed with 2,254 cases in April with nine fatalities. Meanwhile, in January and February, the cases numbered 1,514 cases (no fatality) and 1,845 cases (2 fatalities) respectively. And from 1 May to 17 May, there were 215 cases with one death recorded. "So, throughout this year, 15 people of 8,388 dengue fever cases are dead," he stated.

Meanwhile, in six administration areas in Jakarta, the highest number of dengue cases is shown by East Jakarta with 2,262 cases, followed by South Jakarta 2,143 cases, North Jakarta 1,645 cases, West Jakarta 1,383 cases, Central Jakarta 954 cases, and Thousand Islands Regency with one case.

However, if seen from the incidence rate (IR), North Jakarta ranks first place, with 112.7 per 100,000 people; Central Jakarta with 106.6 per 100,000 people; West Jakarta, 112.7 per 100,000 people; South Jakarta, 100.1 per 100,000 people; East Jakarta, 93.2 per 100,000 people; and Thousand Island, 5.1 per 100,000 people.

?North Jakarta?s IR is higher than that of South Jakarta and East Jakarta. It is because the population of North Jakarta is smaller than the population in South and East Jakarta,? he explained.

Despite the decline, the number of urban villages included in the red zone category or dengue-prone zone is relatively high. In April 2010, the red zone covered 104 urban villages of the total 267 urban villages in Jakarta. The details are; 27 urban villages in Central Jakarta, 25 in South Jakarta, 22 in East Jakarta, 16 in West Jakarta, and 14 urban villages in North Jakarta.

The number of dengue-prone urban villages tends to rise every month. In January, the number of red-zone urban villages reached 97, then 106 in February, and 103 urban villages in March.

"This zoning system is an early detection system in order to control the spread of dengue, by more intensifying the PSN particularly in red-zone urban villages," he concluded.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) is still a frightening specter in Central Jakarta. In fact, since last six months of 1109 recorded cases of dengue have occurred in the area. The high dengue cases in Central Jakarta apart due to lack of awareness of citizens to apply clean and healthy lifestyle, has also been identified because of the difficulty in monitoring of mosquito monitoring interpreter to an elite residential and office buildings in the area.
Although quite high, over the last six months there has been no dengue patients who died.

"Although quite high, over the last six months there has been no dengue patients who died. During this jumantik officers are also difficulties when the monitoring among the elite residential area of Cempaka Putih and Menteng," said Angliana Dianawati, Health Kasudin Central Jakarta, Tuesday (15 / 6 / 2010).

During this time, said Angliana, elite housing residents or those who inhabit the office so that officers are difficult to find jumantik see whether there is any obstacle in monitoring mosquito larvae. Nevertheless, dengue mosquito eradication efforts continue to be intensive, one of them by doing the fumigation of the area in case of DHF, sowing abate powder, and inspection of mosquito larva in the bathtub.

This method is considered quite powerful. Proven cases of DHF in Central Jakarta in the period of the last three months has declined. In March 324 cases, 276 cases of April, and May of 141 cases. "For the month of June of this just happened one case," said Angliana.

Side note, for the highest occupied village of DHF cases with 63 cases of New Johar, Cempaka Putih Barat 58 cases, 67 cases of Cempaka Putih Timur, Kemayoran 51 cases, and Kebon Blanks 50 cases. Meanwhile, 48 other cases occurred in Menteng Village, Cempaka Baru and Tanah Tinggi.

No Area of East Jakarta Free from Dengue Fever
              BERITAJAKARTA.COM ? 6/22/2010 10:48:39 AM

It seems that the efforts of East Jakarta government to combat dengue fever have not run optimally. The sluggish outcome is clearly indicated by the absence of urban village categorized as green zone, or the area free from dengue fever.

East Jakarta Health Agency reveals that during this year there have been 4,622 dengue fever cases recorded, with none of the total 65 urban villages in the municipality declared as green zone; while the red zone covers 32 urban villages and yellow zone includes the rest of 33 urban villages.

Some of the red zone areas are Bambuapus, Ceger, Batuampar, Kampungmelayu, and Kayumanis urban villages; and the yellow ones are Cililitan, Pisanganbaru, Cibubur, Cipinangmelayu, and Cakungbarat urban villages.

The highest number of dengue fever cases is recorded to take place in Durensawit sub-district (892 cases), followed by Cakung sub-district 763 cases (4 fatalities), Jatinegara 480 cases, Pulogadung 450 cases, Kramatjati 431 cases, Cipayung 384 cases, Matraman 354 cases, Ciracas 302 cases, Makasar 300 cases, and Pasarrebo sub-district with 266 cases.

The acting head of East Jakarta Health Agency Ariani Murti explains, to succeed in combating the dengue fever, the government really hopes for public participation, particularly from East Jakarta residents, in the implementation of mosquito-nest eradication program (PSN) on Fridays.

?We conduct PSN routinely, and we admit that it has yet to be able to reduce the number of dengue fever cases. Therefore, I hope the program not to be only undertaken by the officers, but the residents should also take part,? said Ariani Murti, Tuesday (6/22), adding that in order to obtain maximum results, PSN must become a life style for residents.

No Alert Status of Dengue Fever in Jakarta
                  BERITAJAKARTA.COM ? 8/25/2010 3:58:33 PM

Responding to the rumors saying Jakarta is now under the status of Alert 1 or `Extraordinary Occurrence` of dengue fever outbreak, Jakarta capital city government has asserted that it is simply untrue. It can be seen from the number of dengue cases during the period of January to August which only reached 12,049 cases, down by 4,105 compared with the same period of 2009 reaching 16,154 cases.

Head of Jakarta Health Agency, Dien Emmawati explains that an extraordinary occurrence is imposed when the number of current dengue cases is twice of the number of cases in the same period last year. "The existing data shows that, until August 2010, dengue fever cases in Jakarta declined by 4 thousand cases compared with the same period in 2009. Therefore, there is no Alert 1 or Extraordinary Occurrence status in the capital," Dien said, Wednesday (8/25).

In order to eradicate dengue fever outbreak in the capital, the city government has launched various programs and policies; among others, mosquito-nest eradication program (PSN) and the formation of mosquito larvae monitoring team (jumantik).

The data from the city health agency discloses, the total number of dengue cases in 2009 reached 18,835 cases with 32 fatalities; while in 2010, until August, the number reached 12,049 cases, with 17 deaths. The downturn also occurs in the data of dengue fever cases per month in 2009 compared with 2010; from 2,122 cases in January 2009 to only 1,512 cases in January 2010; from 2,107 cases in February 2009 to 1,840 cases in February 2010; from 2,930 cases in March 2009 to 2,588 cases in March 2010; from 2,783 cases in April 2009 to 2.373 cases in April 2010; from 2,470 cases in Mei 2009 to 1,494 cases in May 2010; from 1,112 cases in June 2009 to 1,031 cases in 2009, from 1,730 cases in 2009 to 1,085 cases in 2010; and from 891 cases in August 2009 to 126 cases in August 2010.

For this year, until August, East Jakarta is recorded as the area with the most cases of dengue fever reaching 3,248 cases, followed by South Jakarta with 3,053 cases, North Jakarta 2,129 cases, Central Jakarta 1,352 cases, and the Thousand Islands with one case. The decrease, according to Dien, is due to the increasing awareness of people in Jakarta to maintain the cleanliness of their respective environment and to perform the PSN.

However, she appealed to Jakarta residents to anticipate the outbreak of dengue cases since the rainy season had started to set in.
