Bandung Barat, West Java – After numbers of chickens found dead in Kampung Halte RT 01/19, Desa/ Kecamatan Cipatat, Kabupaten Bandung Barat (KBB) last week, which may caused infection to 6 victims, about 11 chickens belong to Isom Supandi (70), resident of Kampung Andir RT 02/14, Desa Ciptaharja, Kecamatan Cipatat reported suddenly died.
Rapid test was done to 8 survived chickens and resulted positive bird flu. Isom mentioned he didn’t know the cause of death on his chickens. After he found out about bird flu outbreak in his village, Desa Cipatat, then he reported the case to chieftain of his neighborhood.
Deaths of Isom’s chickens caused panic among his neighbors; in particular bird flu infected chickens known have infected people at the next village. This has caused two families (10 people) who lives next to Isom’s house and chicken cages, moved to their relatives’ house. They worried that the virus might infect their children.
Officials from Livestock and Fishery Service KBB, Usep Sugilar tested chickens at Isom’s house and resulted positive bird flu infection. According to the finding, officials disinfected chicken houses and instructed to cage survived chickens.
At other place, head of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health Section, Livestock and Fishery Service KBB, Wiwin Aprianti said that Desa Cipatat has been announced as endemic area. Her team has instructed people to cage their chickens. Disinfection will also be done together with district officials. “Disinfection is done because this is categorized as exceptional circumstances (KLB) in particular 2 people have been infected”, said Wiwin.
