This possible child and now father & grandparents is falling out of that pattern, right? Do we know if the grandparents are maternal or paternal? That's something else to know, in considering family transmission, correct?

Sorry, if this is too basic and I'm showing my ignorance in the science part of this ... but it came to mind, this afternoon.

    Prepping ... yup, I'm decent at that. Science ... . -k
The family genetics stories are fairy tales. There are several examples of transmissions that don't follow blood lines.

Deceased toddler confirmed to have died of bird flu
      ---------------------------------------------------
Blood samples taken from the 2-and-a-half-year-old chld who died last
week [23-27 Mar 2009] in Pekanbaru, Riau, have tested positive for
the bird flu virus, an official said on Wednesday [1 Apr 2009].
Azizman Saad, coordinator of the bird flu prevention team at the
Arifin Ahmad hospital in Pekanbaru, that confirmation that the child
died from bird flu had been received by the Riau Health Office
several days ago. "The victim is believed to have contracted the
virus from dead chickens in his surrounding areas," Azizman told The
Jakarta Post. Indonesia's bird flu death [toll] reached 119 as of
early this month, according to data from the national bird flu
commission. Blood samples of patients believed to have been infected
with the virus are usually sent to the Health Research Agency of the
      Ministry of Health in Jakarta.

Following the confirmation, Azizman urged the child's family members
and neighbors in Tanjung Rhu village, Pekanbaru to go to the nearest
community health center to have a check-up. "There has not been any
evidence that the bird flu infection can be transmitted from human to
human, but the case shows the bird flu outbreak took place in the
victim's area. It's better for those who had made contact with the
victim to go to the health center even though they do not have any
      health problems," he said.

Azizman explained that the child was intensively treated for high
fever and coughing and breathing difficulties in an isolated room at
Arifin Achmad hospital. "One day before he died, his condition was
improving but, finally, his condition [deteriorated] and he fell
unconscious. Six doctors tried to save his life, but to no avail," he
said. Azizman explained that before the disclosure of the laboratory
tests the child was believed to have died from multi-organ failure.

Rini Hermiyati of the Pekanbaru Health Office said she had assigned a
team to observe the health condition of the victim's family members
and at the same time make an inventory of neighbors who were in
contact with the victim. "No one has been found with symptoms of bird
flu, but those having contact with the victims will be closely
watched out for 21 days," Rini said.

The Pekanbaru Livestock Husbandry Office made the decision to cull
chickens in the victim's surrounding areas to help curb the spread of
the virus. "The number of chickens raised here is small," she said.
Meanwhile, Susi Herlinda, a member of the Pekanbaru Legislative
Council, criticized the administration for its failure to anticipate
the bird flu infection. The death of the victim showed the
administration was not aggressive enough in campaign about the danger
of bird flu, she said. "It has become a habit of our people,
everybody acts only after somebody falls victim to a certain
diseases. The death of this child should have been used as momentum
to improve," she said. "Related institutions have to create awareness
among the public about the danger of the bird flu," Susi added.

            Warning, Google translated

One suspect bird flu patient is waiting for testresults for the moment in Riau Province. A boy 15 - SP - 15 years old.

My feeling is: things go better in Riau, 2 years ago there were dozens of suspect cases in Riau.

Health Service and Livestock Service seem to act fast. Still no ideal situation ofcourse, but I don't see any reason to panic.

During 2009, 9 suspect Bird Flu Cases in Riau

PEKANBARU (RiauInfo) - Since the beginning of January 2009, in Riau have occurred nine suspect cases of bird flu. From each case, 1 of them died, 1 case is awaiting the results of research from Jakarta. While the rest expressed a negative bird flu.

Along with this, Pebliaji urge to avoid bird flu, people must maintain health seoptimal possible. For example, with eating chicken that is cooked perfectly correct, that is, the water temperature 100 degrees centigrade. Then do not expect too much in contact with poultry, the ducks would also chicken.

Dijelaskannya, of chicken can ketara melalaui characteristics such as sudden death. However, to duck the fact, not physical it is visible there is a problem, but the duck indeed potentially transmit the virus to human physical contact in a way is directly.

"Itik more dangerous than the chicken. If the chicken can be seen from the characteristics, such as sudden death and other characteristics. However, if the ducks, physical feel OK no problem. However, ducks are more potentially transmit the virus to bird flu, he said.

Data at the Health Ministry showed 121 of the 145 patients diagnosed as infected with the virus had died, a very high fatality rate.

There is a need to raise awareness of bird flu because of a real threat: It could turn into something much more frightening than the H5N1 virus

The above translation identifies two more people with fevers who live near the confirmed toddler. Since they were identified during a canvassing of the area (see updated map), it seems unlikely that these two residents are the grandparents or father of the index case. The father was said to have been still in the hospital, while the grandparents were said to have had symptoms earlier. The two most recent cases have links to dead poultry and have been given Tamiflu, although H5N1 confirmation has not been obtained yet for the poultry or the neighbors. However, confirmation of bird flu in non-fatal cases in Indonesia is rare.

Data at the Health Ministry showed 121 of the 145 patients diagnosed as infected with the virus had died, a very high fatality rate.

There is a need to raise awareness of bird flu because of a real threat: It could turn into something much more frightening than the H5N1 virus
