Leeds school closed by vomiting virus

About 80 pupils at Woodlands Primary in Harehills were believed to be suffering from norovirus, which causes vomiting and diarrhoea.

It is hoped a Newbury primary school will be able to reopen on Monday after a highly contagious sickness bug closed the school for two days.


Children at the Willows School in Greenham were told to collect their bags yesterday and head back home after an outbreak of the Norovirus.

The bug, also known as the Winter Vomiting Virus, is very catching and can quickly pass from person to person.

Today the school has remained shut on the advice of West Berkshire Council and cleaners have been inside all day giving the primary a thorough, deep clean.

The bug tends to last 48 hours so it's hoped after the weekend things will be back to normal at the Nightingales' school.

</TD></TR><TR><TD height=10></TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top>THE Willows Primary school in Newbury re-opened today (Monday) following an outbreak of Norovirus which forced the school to close for two days last week.

Up to 67 pupils at school at the Pyle Hill school showed symptoms of the highly contagious bug which caused the school to close on Thursday and Friday.

Chairman of governors, John Tyzack, said the two-day closure was to enable a "thorough deep clean" of the school premises.

West Berkshire Council spokesman, Keith Ulyatt, said: "A number of pupils and staff became ill on Thursday, so parents were asked to come to take their children home during the day.

"There are 203 pupils at the school, and it is possible that up to a third of them could have had symptoms of some sort yesterday, hence the decision to close the school."
