A gastro-intestinal bug is plaguing nursing homes in Quinte, but the worst is over for residents of one home in Belleville.
Officials from the Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit said an outbreak of the gastro- intestinal virus that saw restrictions and precautions at Westgate Lodge has run its course.
There have been no reports of deaths from the outbreak, but heightened precautions for hand-washing and advice to visitors have been in place at several nursing homes.
Known as the norovirus or Norwalk like virus, the bug causes nausea and diarrhea. It has been running in several homes for the past week, say officials, but Westgate reported no new cases in the past four days.
There are still reports of outbreaks of the norovirus at Crown Ridge Nursing Home and Trent Valley Lodge in Trenton and Picton Manor.
