Yemen Health Office Reports Measles Outbreak With Over 1,200 Cases

Taiz — The Health Office in government-controlled areas of Yemen has reported a widespread outbreak of measles during January, recording more than 1,200 infections and eight deaths, according to an official statement from the Taiz Health Office.

Taisir Al-Samie, the office’s media officer, confirmed that Taiz province alone registered 144 cases and three deaths. He stressed that the outbreak is not confined to Taiz but has spread to other regions, raising fears of further escalation.

Al-Samie noted that the situation in Houthi-controlled territories is “far worse,” with infections and fatalities multiplying while the group conceals actual data, exacerbating the crisis.​..

Yemen Activates Health Emergency Committee as Measles Outbreak Kills Dozens of Children

Aden — The Yemeni government announced Tuesday the activation of a national health emergency committee following the deaths of dozens of children and thousands of infections from measles since the start of 2026.

According to the state-run Saba news agency, Health Minister Qassem Buhaibeh chaired an expanded meeting in the interim capital Aden with the emergency committee to discuss the causes of the outbreak and measures to contain it.

The meeting also reviewed the latest epidemiological developments and broader health sector challenges.​..

...The announcement comes after the ministry recorded 15 child deaths and 1,541 measles cases in government-held areas during April alone. Since January, the total has risen to 36 child fatalities and more than 7,000 infections nationwide.

Yemen’s health system, already devastated by more than a decade of conflict between government forces and Houthi rebels, continues to struggle with one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.​..

Yemen Records Nearly 17,000 Measles Cases , Over 100 Deaths in 2025

ADEN — Yemen’s Ministry of Public Health and Population in Aden has reported a significant measles outbreak in government-held areas during 2025, with 16,928 infections and 109 related deaths, underscoring the persistence of epidemic diseases amid fragile health services.

According to the ministry’s annual health statistics report, Abyan governorate recorded the highest number of cases with 2,900 infections, followed by Aden (2,789), Marib (2,380), Taiz (2,274), Lahj (1,999), Shabwa (1,673), and Hadramout (1,469 across its valley and coastal districts). Al-Dhalea registered 916 cases.​..
