Measles Identified in Wood County

The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department has identified a case of Measles in Wood County and it's the first case in the state in more than 15 years.
Officials say the patient is a child, who does not have a history of immunization against Measles.
The last case of the Measles identified in the West Virginia was in 1994.
Doctors say Measles is a very contagious viral disease, that can be prevented by taking the vaccine as prescribed by your doctor.
Symptoms include:
-high fever
-cough
-runny nose
-redness of the eyes
-a rash that develops a few days after symptoms appear
The health department suggests calling your doctor if you or your children have these symptoms. Officials also say you should call your healthcare providers in advance of your arrival so they can be prepared and you do not spread the disease to other people
Officials say this case of Measles should serve as a reminder for everyone to keep immunizations up-to-date.
Doctors say if you have been immunized, you don't need to worry about contracting the disease.
