A woman in the 20s from Oslo (Norway) died Saturday, three days after being vaccinated against swine flu, according to the Norwegian Medicines Agency.
The woman was vaccinated with Pandemrix Wednesday, 28 October. She died unexpectedly three days later, Saturday 31 October.
No correlation with vaccine
Medicines Agency reports that the woman had an underlying heart disease.

Medicines Agency cooperates with European Medicines Agency regarding the safety of the vaccine.

In Norway, the Directorate of Health, Pharmaceutical Administration and Public Health register any side effects and deaths that can be related to the vaccine.
- It is always tragic when a young person dies, said Dr. Steinar Madsen in Pharmaceutical Administration, and continues:
- The death occurred a few days after vaccination. It was therefore important for us to conduct thorough investigations to see if the death could be related to the vaccine. The woman was therefore autopsy as quickly as possible.
Medicines Agency specifies that it is extremely rare that it is the vaccine that is the cause of death.
- When you vaccinate many people over a short time, it will happen to be deaths that have no connection with the vaccination.
Few side effects
This event does not change the government's recommendation of the vaccine.
500 000 doses of flu vaccine Pandermix have been issued in Norway.
Around 300 000 people have now been vaccinated.
Most of these belong to a risk group with underlying diseases that may be exacerbated by influenza virus.
There have now been reports of eight possible cases of side effects associated with the vaccine in Norway.
It is not known how severe these side effects have been.
