Oneida County Reports First H1N1 Death
Submitted: 12/01/2009
ONEIDA COUNTY - Oneida County is reporting its first H1N1-related death Tuesday. According to Health Department Director Linda Conlon, the department is not releasing any more information regarding the person's name, age, race or location at this time.
Conlon says out of respect for the family and patient privacy laws, that information is confidential.
She adds for most people the H1N1 flu is not severe, but it can be especially dangerous for kids or adults with compromised immune systems or people living with a chronic illness.
Conlon adds the department should be getting more H1N1 vaccine in the next few weeks. She says its a good idea for people in the high-risk groups get vaccinated.
To find out if you are in the high-risk group, you can log onto the Oneida County Health Department's website. Conlon says eventually everyone who wants to get vaccinated for the H1N1 flu will be able to once the vaccine supply gets replenished.
